DSS - Dual Stability System

Passive wheelchair users are heavily dependent on their wheelchair and require a great deal of assistance from attendants in their daily life.

To address these needs, Invacare Passive wheelchairs feature the Dual Stability System, known as ‘DSS', which offers two vital features:

  • Body length compensation
  • Weight shifting

Body length compensation enables the user to change the angle of backrest and legrest, with minimum sheering. Crucially, during the position change, the neck/headrest and trunk support stay in position.

An additional benefit is that the clothes on the upper body do not move, eliminating uncomfortable, hard-to-reach wrinkles.

Weight shifting ensures that the wheelchair is stable even when the seat angle changes.

The beauty of this system is that when the seat tilts, it moves downwards and forwards, retaining stability despite the backwards leaning position; the seat simply slides in-between the chassis.
